Flyff is a fantasy MMORPG set in the lands of Roika where all characters can move about by flying. Shade, born of the goddess Rhisis, was exiled by 8 great heroes after a great war. After returning, she wants to destroy all life and has set the people adrift at sea and Masquerpets monsters roam the land. Her sister Bubble wants to help the people and has split the land to form Madrigal.

You control an avatar and take part in ranged and melee fights in the air and on ground while also running a shop when inactive. At level 15, you can choose from one of 4 character classes: Mercenary, Magician, Assist or Acrobat. At level 60, you can choose from 1 of 2 subclasses as well. You can become a Master at level 120 and return to level 60 with enhanced powers to reach Hero status when reaching level 121. You gain levels by performing quests or defeating Masquerpets to collect dropped objects that can be traded for such things as penya money, equipment, foods & potions, and quest objects. With each level you gain skill points for attacking and protection/enhancement. You can restore health, fight power, and magic power bars with food, vital drinks, and mana refreshers. PvP fighting is allowed when all parties accept or you can enter the PvP Arena for that purpose.

There are many ways to be social in the game. You can vote a Master or Hero to be Lord of your server for 2 weeks to introduce events and collect taxes on purchases and returns. Join a party group to increase experience and booty. Guilds allow chat amongst each member and have titles of Master/Leader, Kingpins, Captains, Supporters, and Rookies. A guild can enter a guild dungeon for a Clockworks War, and fight hundreds of monsters in giant form at the Secret Rooms & Forsaken Tower. A weekly guild siege is held for 8 guilds to compete in a free-for-all fight. A male and female character can become a couple and work co-operatively for special buffs and gifts.

There are also other features such as a collector system for rare and unique items, private shops, and raising pets which give advantages in battle. Improving weapons or items can be done various ways: elementing can give advantage over monsters associated with one of five elements, awakening adds random additional stats to equipment while socket cards add stats, upgrading increases an item's main quality through using magic stones, crafting creates a unique weapon with rare materials, and customizing can work on even jewelry, pets and hairstyles. The game is F2P (free to play) but there's also a micropayment Cash Shop which allows players to support the game by purchasing gPotatos to exchange for premium items not found in the game.
