Beauty and the Beast is the eighth game in the episodic series based on fairy tales commonly attributed to the Brothers Grimm. All games in the series share the same gameplay with playtime from half an hour to an hour. Players control the narrator Grimm who first tells the original story in cut-scenes with cut-out figures. Next, the player needs to control Grimm to adapt the story with a much darker tone by spreading filth transforming the environment and characters into much darker versions. The story is split up in different scenes. Afterwards, the entire tale is retold with the same cut-scene style, but now featuring the updated events.

Each instalment is different because of the story, characters and the environment. In this episode a man is caught stealing a rose from an enchanted castle. The owner, a beast, offers him freedom in exchange for his daughter Beauty. She unwillingly enters the castle, but eventually falls in love with the beast. In Grimm's version, the beast is not impressed with the daughter at all and has other plans. The game takes place in a village, the woods, a strange area with floating platforms and the castle with the gardens. [source:mobygames]
