The Invisible Hand: the challenge for a fair world THE INVISIBLE HAND - LA SFIDA PER UN MONDO EQUO is the first Italian video game to tackle the issues of fair trade and the economy: it is a 3D game packed full of action, investigations and drama which talks of human rights, fair trade and critical consumption. In 13 different missions, the lead character crosses the globe, passing from the wealth and opulence of the Western nations to the injustices of the South of the world. We start off in a large metropolis in the North of the world, where we have to fight the consumerist attitude that dominates global society, tackling the hammering advertising which turns us into inert, passive citizens.
From here the action moves to Africa, to a plantation which is exploited by the confectionery industry's multinationals, where we have to investigate the unfair mechanisms governing the world economy by following the cocoa production chain.
Then we meet an independent producer and find out about fair trade which offers dignity to the producers and respects their rights. After, we have to sneak on board a cargo ship, having got past the import depot and the customs offices, with the corrupt officer who tries to stop us.
Finally, the final action back in the city: from inside a confectionery industry to the headquarters of the WTO, where the fate of millions of small-scale producers is decided without any consideration for them.
