Gravity Well Gravity Well is a strategic war game of planetary conquest with arcade elements. It can be played in 'Solitaire' mode where the player competes against three computer opponents, or in multi-player mode against other opponents.

The objective is to claim all available planets in the sector for the empire.

The player takes control of one of four races and must explore the available universe for new planets. Once these have been located the player must land to claim them and then defend them so that freighters can come and build either colonies, if the planet is habitable, or outposts and tech bases if it is not.
Where a planet has been colonised the existing structures must be destroyed before another player can claim it.

The single player game is customisable. The player can select their opponents from sixteen races whose characteristics range from timid to suicidal, the number of ships and types of starting weapons can be changed with more weapons and base upgrades being awarded during the game.

The ships are fast and will fly in one direction until they are rotated and thrust is applied to change course. Landing on a planet or star base therefore requires the player to head directly for their target and at the right moment rotate their ship and apply thrust to reduce speed and counter gravitational attraction.
